Gerard "Jerry" Nevarez

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION, EQUITY OFFICER

Jerry is currently the Equity Officer with the NMSU Equity, Inclusion & Diversity Office. In that role, he works with underutilization with respect to affirmative action. He assists hiring departments to assure compliance with federal regulations relating to job requisitions, hiring proposals and related issues.

Additionally, Jerry has twenty-five years of experience with workplace investigations, handling discrimination issues and delivering training on the subject matter. He served as the EEO and Training Officer with the City of Las Cruces and as Executive Director of the NMSU Office of Institutional Equity.

Jerry is currently a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and serves on the Mesilla Board of Trustees. Additionally, he received a Bachelor of Arts and a Masters of Public Administration from NMSU. He has had a long association with the University and proudly established an endowment in the College of Arts and Sciences (MPA) and a scholarship for CAMP students. Additionally, he created the Nevarez Family Collection with the NMSU Archives and Special Collections.

Fun Fact: Jerry grew up on a farm and enjoyed growing plants and working in the fields. He no longer lives on a farm, but continues to grow a variety of plants at his home.
